When Kynesha King moved from Milwaukee to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, she found more than a new home. She found a community she was determined to make stronger.
Today, as co-CEO of Do More Gulf Coast, Inc., a member of Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s GivHer Circle, and graduate of the Circle’s inaugural Young Philanthropist Cohort, Kynesha is creating opportunities for children and families while bringing people together through experiences that inspire growth, connection, and community. Through her work, she is passionate about opening doors for underprivileged youth through STEAM education, innovation, and creativity.
For Kynesha, philanthropy isn’t defined by wealth. It’s defined by purpose.
“Philanthropy is using my time, talents, and resources to create opportunities that help children, families, and communities thrive,” she said. “It’s not just about giving money, but about investing in people, building meaningful relationships, and empowering others to succeed.”
Her passion is deeply rooted in the communities she serves.
“Black and Brown communities, especially those that have been underserved and overlooked, are especially important to me because I know how life-changing access to opportunity can be,” she said. “I am passionate about helping children and families overcome barriers by creating opportunities, resources, and experiences that they may not otherwise have because of financial or systemic challenges.”
Kynesha hopes her commitment to serving others extends far beyond her own generation.
“I hope my philanthropy and community involvement inspire my children, and the generations that follow them, to carry the torch of service, compassion, and leadership,” she said. “My greatest hope is to leave a legacy where giving back becomes a way of life, and each generation is committed to creating even greater opportunities for those who come after them.”
She also hopes others recognize that philanthropy belongs to everyone.
“Philanthropy is not measured by wealth but by the generosity of your heart through the time you give, the knowledge you share, the doors you open, and the hope you pour into someone else’s life.”
Kynesha credits GCCF with helping shape her understanding of philanthropy.
“The Gulf Coast Community Foundation truly taught me what it means to be a philanthropist,” she said. “Through the Young Philanthropist Cohort, I had my first opportunity to learn from and connect with the incredible changemakers helping the Gulf Coast thrive, and through the GivHer Circle, I found a community of powerful women who reminded me that I belong and that I have something meaningful to contribute.”
Today, Kynesha carries those lessons with her every day. She says the GivHer Circle gave her something that continues to guide her journey: the confidence and freedom to show up without questioning her worth. She embraces every opportunity before her, walks boldly in her purpose, and is committed to creating even greater opportunities for others.
As we celebrate Black Philanthropy Month, we’re honored to share Kynesha’s story. Her journey reminds us that philanthropy isn’t reserved for a select few. It begins wherever someone chooses to invest their time, talents, and heart in helping others thrive.
