Gulfport, Miss. (November 19, 2025) — Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina, the Gulf Coast’s story of resilience, hope, and recovery is being captured in a new inspirational coffee-table book. “Resilience, Vision, and Community: Hurricane Katrina 20 Years Later” by award-winning author Rosy Crumpton honors the courage of the people and communities hit the hardest by the storm. All author proceeds will benefit the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, supporting its work to strengthen and invest in the region.
Part memoir, part documentary, the book blends then-and-now photography, journal entries, and interviews with survivors and community leaders, offering readers a rare lens into both the devastation of 2005 and the Gulf Coast’s remarkable journey of renewal.
In August 2005, just nine days after Katrina made landfall, Crumpton, then a recent college graduate, arrived on the Gulf Coast as a Red Cross disaster relief volunteer. For three weeks, she documented her experiences through photographs and handwritten journal entries, witnessing devastation and the resilience of the human spirit at its rawest. Twenty years later, she returned to the region to revisit the people and places that shaped her journey.
“This project is a tribute to the Gulf,” Crumpton said. “My Katrina experience changed me as a young woman, and returning two decades later is a celebration of the resilience, recovery, and growth of the Gulf area and the people who live there.”
Dr. Christen Duhé, president and executive director of GCCF, added, “We are so grateful to Rosy for creating this beautiful book and for supporting the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Her work celebrates the courage and resilience of our communities, and we are truly thankful that GCCF will benefit from her generosity.”
“Resilience, Vision, and Community: Hurricane Katrina 20 Years Later” will release in winter 2025 and is available for pre-order at www.mygccf.com/kTbS.
