Helping the Needs of Children
Hope Haven was established in 1995. Youth Court judge Ann Williamson saw the need for a local shelter for children taken into care. She shared her concern and the need with several other women. These women, Bobbie Barr, Mary Mclaurin, Lois Griffin and Carole Ripley became the driving force in the community to raise the funds necessary to open such a shelter. In 1996, a community volunteer, Terry Latham secured a grant to enable the shelter to become a reality. Mr. Latham became the first Director and shelter manager for the new organization and remains the Director after 16 years.
